Muhurat Trading is an auspicious one-hour trading session conducted every year on Diwali by NSE and BSE.
While Muhurat Trading is usually scheduled in the evening, this year it will take place in the afternoon. The term “Muhurat” itself refers to an auspicious time chosen to begin significant activities.
During this session, BSE and NSE allow traders and investors to make fresh investments or adjust portfolios in a one-hour trading session. In 2025, Muhurat Trading will take place on 21st October 2025, from 1:30 PM onwards.
Many traders and investors believe that buying stocks during this auspicious session invites wealth and prosperity for the year ahead. It is also considered a symbolic offering to Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, making even small token investments popular during this time.

Muhurat trading is largely symbolic. The session is short and often volatile, so set realistic expectations and avoid aggressive speculation. Keep in mind that liquidity may be limited, making some stocks harder to trade. Focusing on fundamentally strong, diversified investments is the best way to balance sentiment with sustainable gains.
The Muhurat Trading session is open to everyone. From retail investors to large institutional participants. It provides an opportunity for all investors to take part in this tradition.

Muhurat Trading follows the same structure as a normal market session but in a compressed one-hour format. The session begins with a short pre-market phase for order collection and price discovery, followed by the main trading period, and ends with a post-market session.
In the pre-market window, investors can place and match orders to prepare for the official trading hour. Once the main session begins, regular buy and sell transactions take place, though the market tone generally remains upbeat. Many investors use the occasion for symbolic purchases to mark the start of the new year.
As October 21st approaches, investors look forward to this symbolic trading session that beautifully merges heritage with modern finance. Muhurat Trading is more than just a market event. It marks a fresh beginning to the financial year, rooted in tradition.
By taking part in it, investors not only honour age-old customs but also set the tone for the year ahead with thoughtful and strategic investments.
Shubh Muhurat, Shubh Nivesh!
