DAC accorded Acceptance of Necessity to the procurement of Advanced Land Navigation System
News: Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to the procurement of Advanced Land Navigation System (ALNS) and 22 Interceptor Boats. The ALNS Mk-II, which will be used in Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) for Indian Army, is compatible with Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, NAVigation using Indian Constellation (IRNSS, NavlC), India in addition to Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS). The ALNS Mk-II offers compatibility with Defence Series Maps resulting in very high accuracy in navigational applications for AFVs. Interceptor Boats, for Indian Coast Guard (ICG), will be equipped with latest state-of-art system capable of quick interception and shallow water operation in territorial waters. These boats will be used for coastal surveillance & patrolling, search & rescue operations, including medical evacuation.
Views: As per the media sources, 970 ALNS equipment will be procured from Bharat Electronics (BEL). In case of Interceptor boats, L&T is expected to be the key beneficiary as the company has already delivered the boats in past to ICG. Apart from L&T, other shipyard companies like Mazagon Dock, Garden Reach and Cochin Shipyard can also participate in this project.
