IEX TRADES 7764 MUS IN NOVEMBER, DOWN 2.5% MOM

The Indian Energy Exchange achieved 7764 MU volume in November 2022, registering 2.5% MoM de-growth. Total volume in November 2022 was down 13.1% on a YoY basis. The day-ahead market volume at 5084 MU posted growth of 17.55% on an MoM basis. Market clearing price was up 52% YoY at Rs 4.6 per unit. The Real-Time Electricity Market achieved 1407 MU volume during the month, registering 13.3% YoY growth and 37.88% MoM de-growth. The Term-Ahead Market, comprising intra-day, contingency, daily & weekly contracts, traded 547 MU during the month, registering 11.9% MoM de-growth. IEX Green Market, comprising the Green Day-Ahead and Green Term-Ahead Market segments, achieved 354 MU volume during November 2022. Total 3.72 lakh RECs were cleared in the trading session at IEX held on Tuesday, November 30, 2022

IEX registered yet another flat month. DAM volumes grew well MoM but that has adversely affected RTM volumes. IEX was unable to garner volumes due to Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) extending Rs 12 per unit price ceiling in all market segments up to December 30. The government’s plan to launch a high-price market specifically for gas-fired and battery storage plants in the coming three to six months will surely add volumes in the longer term
