News: Indian Railway has approved Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo policy (GCT), as per which owners of private freight terminals (PFT) will not have to pay licensing fee to IR for using railway track that connects their PFT to nearest rail line.
Views: Although IR is immediately set to lose Rs.700 crore via this move, it expects private players to add more PFT, which will overall improve cargo volumes on rail network (expects each new PFT to add | 100 crore revenue to IR). IR expects addition of 20-50 PFTs each year.
