News: As per media sources, Pernod Ricard has put new Indian investments on hold due to long-running tax disputes with authorities on valuing liquor imports. Pernod had earlier planned to boost its production by 40% a year by CY25 and increase its exports by a third in the next five years.
Views: The disputes began in 1994 and are related to import valuation by custom authority. Premium and Scotch segment in the Indian context is a duopoly (Pernod and Diageo). Pernod in its communication with Indian officials has requested for a sympathetic consideration.
