TELECOM: JIO LEADS SUBSCRIBER ADDITION; VIL REMAIN WEAK ON SUBSCRIBER FRONT
News: As per TRAI latest data, Reliance Jio added 1.68 million mobile subscribers (gross base 40.5 crore) in April, 2022 while VIL lost 1.57 million subscribers (gross base 25.9 crore). Bharti Airtel added 0.82 million subscribers (gross base 36.1 crore). On active subscriber front, Jio base was flat. Bharti Airtel lost 3.1 million active subscribers while Vodafone Idea continues to lose most active subscriber with active subscriber loss of 3.8 million.
Views: The subscribers’ loss is on expected lines owing to sim consolidation amid residual tariff hike impact. Jio active subscriber base has turned flattish month on month after sharp decline in last few months, while VIL remains the weakest telco.
