Reliance Power Limited, formerly known as Reliance Energy Generation Limited, was incorporated on 17th January 1995 under the name of Bawana Power Private Ltd and has changed its name on multiple occasions until July’2007 when it was finally renamed Reliance Power Ltd.

In 2010, Reliance Power entered into a contract with Shanghai Electric Group Company worth USD 8.3 billion to purchase 36 coal-fired power generation units, spare parts, and related services for 10 years, making it the largest contract entered between an Indian private company and a government-owned Chinese firm. The promoters of the company currently hold 24.98% of the stake in the company, out of which 1.22% is pledged. Others own the balance 70.35% (70.23% by retail investors and 0.12% in Mutual Funds).
In June 2021, quarterly net sales were Rs. 13.89 crores, which has increased by approximately 9.37% from Rs. 12.7 crores for the April-June 2020 quarter. The quarterly net loss in June 2021 was Rs. 78.14 crores, which has decreased sharply by 173.03% from a net profit of Rs. 106.99 crores in June 2020. In June 2021, operating profit was reported at Rs. 44.92 crores, which is also down by approximately 79.74% from a net profit of Rs. 221.7 crores for the quarter ending in June 2020. From Rs. 0.38 in June 2020, the EPS of Reliance Power has reduced to (Rs. 0.28) in June 2021. RPOWER’s stock closed at Rs. 11 on 16th August’2021 (NSE) and has returned 238.46% in the last six months and 189.47% in the previous year.
